Welcome to
Willowstead
Tucked under the watchful eye of a willow tree and built by the hands of family and friends, Willowstead is my homestead of heart. A cozy little world where craft and story meet.
Hello, friend! I’m Molly—the maker, illustrator, seamstress, and storyteller behind Willowstead Creative.
Willowstead grew from a lifelong love of folklore, fabric [hoarding], and the quiet power of handmade things. My background in costume design led me to the fast-paced world of theater and film in the “Big Apple”, but it wasn’t until I stepped away from that world and into a slower, more intentional life amongst real apples (I live in the orchards) that I discovered the kind of magic I really wanted to make.
Work rooted in natural materials, storytelling, and the belief that making by hand connects us to something older than time.
I now spend my days as a high school sewing & design teacher, doing my best to help my students live our classroom motto: Conscious, Creative, Capable. By night - and golden hour - I work from my home studio nestled in the Appalachian Mountains; a lovingly chaotic haven I call The Sewpothecary. It’s filled with thrifted textiles, botanical dye jars, folklore anthologies, and a rotating cast of cozy chaos: spools of thread, dried flowers, and my tiny companions, Herb and Sir Dabbles.
Most days you’ll find me with ink-stained fingers or a half-finished stitch in my lap, dreaming up stories to be worn, held, or hung on your wall.
My work is seasonal, story-driven, and deeply personal. Whether it's naturally dyed silk spun from the memories of my own wedding, cross-stitch patterns inspired by fae courts and coffee-loving ghosts, or richly detailed illustrations that whisper of forgotten lore, I create for those who see magic in the quiet things. Every piece is meant to be lived with, not just looked at. My hope is that when you wear or stitch something from Willowstead, you feel a little more connected to yourself, to the earth, and to the long line of makers before us.
When you shop here, you’re not just supporting a family—you’re joining it. One where handmade things matter. Where cozy is a spell. And where you’re always welcome.
xx Molly
